This infographic by Harmony gives you the background to #FOAMED

If you don't really get what we mean when we say 'tweet it' 'snap it' then start here.

This really encompasses what we are trying to achieve with this website- to give you guys other ways to improve your skills, knowledge and portfolio in all things #ED using #FOAMED

Challenge- Read this and perhaps do some reading around education strategies and you'll find you can link this to more than the codes below- try clicking here to take the VARK questionnaire and find out how you learn.

#FOAMED is not strictly evidence based practice but... all of our blogs are linked to literature- combine these with your own reading to bring a subject together.

Enjoy!

RCN Competency Codes

Level 1

GNP 5.1.1, GNP 6.1.2

Level 2

GNP 5.1.1, 5.2.1

This is so important to most of us who work in emergency care where we literally learn new things every day.

I am sure you have all that feeling of 'I just don't know enough' or 'I am never going to get this'

The key points from Harmony's poster here is that this is NORMAL!! Don't panic but control it because the feelings will make you better but only if you are able to control those ANTS!!

Why is this important to you? If we are to advance within our chosen path we must be able to recognise where we are on the scale of novice to expert and if we let imposter syndrome take over we may not be able to do that.

Reflection is the underpinning process to our education whether we like it or not, but how we do that is important. I may have mentioned this already but my vision for how you use this website is that you link all of the content to one aspect of the competency framework. The framework is actually based on the Benner (1984) Novice to Expert continuum available here

So doubting yourself is good

Letting it take over is not!

I would much rather work with a nurse who says ' I don't know that'' than one who says they do know 'everything' Check out this diagram to explain.

This is the first of our accompanying infographics for each section of the framework. You may have heard we that we released our podcasts finally on iTunes (if you haven't don't worry click here

The plan is that for each section we will have a podcast, an infographic, a blog and a video to access so that no matter how you learn or how much time you have you can still get some of the framework covered. My advice would be to do a bit of work on each section and gradually advance through the Benner levels as you gain experience on the job.

So this infographic covers CCT1 which is all things patient assessment at the front door- as with all of the sections it encompasses knowledge and skills.

Take home points- this is possibly the most important part of our job- we need to get this right for our patients.

Keep doing the amazing work you all do.
